Adult females lay eggs in stagnant water, for example reservoirs or in containers such as plastic buckets, tires or kids toys. The most common mosquito species feed at dawn and dusk, and for a few hours into dark. However, there are some species that are particularly aggressive and will feed both day and night.
Most mosquitoes rest or sleep in a dark, sheltered place during the daylight hours, preferably an area that is relatively humid, such as tucked inside vegetation like plants and grass.
Mosquitoes can carry and transmit diseases such as Zika Virus, Malaria, Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever, Chikungunya, EEE and West Nile. At least two million people a year die from these diseases around the world.
